We arrived at Eric Murdock's newly designed RV Park on Sunday of Labor Day Week-end. Eric is John and Kay's nephew and the son of our good friends Sharon and Jim Murdock. The only two heralds we had to concur was the GPS sent us on a wild goose chase all around the town close to Eric's house, then came the entrance road up a long, winding and tree hugging road. John car in tow and John standing up in the step area looking up, down and both sides to be sure we would clear the trees. Yep we did! Eric had recently redesign his personal driveway to accommodate his plan to purchase a Travel Trailer in the future and that worked out great for us. We hooked up to his power and we were home for our two night, three day stay. Eric has a very nice home and both he and Paige made us feel very welcome.
After a short chat we all loaded up in John's car to head out and see the sights. Eric drove us along the Columbia River Gorge which is a breath taking view of the 80 mile long range of the Cascade Mountains. We visited many water falls through out the gorge. The most impressive is the Multnomah Falls. Followed by the Horse Fail Falls, Vista House and Cape Horn. We ended our journey with an awesome dinner of Chicken and Dumplings at a famous restaurant in the gorge.
Monday Labor Day 9/1/14
Eric had the day off and he was gracious enough to again drive us Mount Saint Helen and all the outstanding view points along the way.
Mount St Helen is 8365 feet above sea level, it is difficult to imagine anything can survive that cloud of ash that is 480 degrees Fahrenheit for very long but nature's ability to rejuvenate is amazing.
There were numerous eruptions in the 80's but none as significant as the summer of May18,1980 this eruption sent ash all the way around the world. They anticipate future eruptions as they are marking an increase in the dome. The dome is a growth of Magnum We were astounded by the visible Glacier that is currently growing around the dome. Interesting to know that a Glacier can form and continue to grow surrounding the area of this volcano.
Paige worked all day and did some food shopping to meet us back at Eric where she served up an awesome steak dinner with all the fix-ins including Eric's Famous Potato Salad.
Tuesday 9/2/14
Paige served us fresh home made warm Cinnamon Buns before we left for our trip to Oregon.
Many Thanks to both of them for there warm hospitality. We had a great time, many laughs, a couple of beers, a wine or two, great food, two days of great guided tours and a real man size bonfire in Eric's beautiful new pit.
Eric and Paige thanks for a great time.
