San Francisco 9/11 &9/12

San Francisco what a city it is.

We were fortunate to have talked to a fellow camper at our last RV Park and he had just come from the area and explained how he took the ferry over to San Francisco. That was a great plan, we didn't have to drive in the traffic or pay to cross the bridges.  It dropped us off at the famous Pier 39 which is Fisherman's Wharf.
We did finally get to see the Sea Lions.  They have taken up ownership of the pier 39's K- Dock sense the earthquake that hit S.F. in October,1989.  The male lions can reach up to 850 lbs and 7 ft in length, while females can reach 220 lbs. and 6ft length. To differentiate the sex the male has a bump or crest on top of their head that develops at about four or five years.  Sea Lions like this in the wild may live up to 25 years.

We picked up a couple of tours here.

#1 - We took a ferry tour around the bay that was narrated by individual head sets and this continued under the  bay bridge as well as the famous San Francisco Bridge. It circled Alcatraz, Bert was disappointed that we were not able to get tour tickets but they were booked two weeks in advance.

#2 We toured the city in a double decker open air bus that was narrated by a very knowledgable man.  It is a very clean city and is very upper class with some of the most beautiful business district I have ever experienced.

This is the heart that was painted and placed in the middle of town to commemorate Andy William's song "I left my heart in San Francisco." Many pictures are taken here.  Like the couple that is just walking away did.
Our last stop at the wharf was where we picked up some large crabs that were cooked to take home and have for dinner.  Yumm...Yumm

The Bay Bridge is a double decker bridge with two lanes running east and two west.

We caught a nice sunset on our way back to the main land on the ferry as we enjoyed a beer.
