4/12 & 13/18 The gusty winds blew us into New Mexico today.

The wind really blew hard all day, there was a flashing sign that warned of the high winds and the possibility of road closers because of white out condition during dust storms.

These are the cactus that grow along the sides the roads.

In Las Cruses, New Mexico we visited the White Sands Missile Range, how ironic that we visited this testing grounds on the same day that the US used a missile:-(   It was very interesting and eye opening.  Much of the equipment we saw was of the antique variety (guess we are becoming antiques too sense some of the items we saw were things we used in our lifetime.)

Tank crossing not a sign we see everyday.

A few miles down the road we went to see the White Sands Duns.  This National Monument covering 275 square miles of the Chihuahuan desert.  The white sand is the largest Gypsum Dune-field in the world.

In this pix the fence is half buried by the sand along the highway.
  • The dunes blowing into the road reminded us of the up state New York State winter plowing fun!
Off to Arizona and another time change tomorrow.
